Book Blog Newbie Tag

Welcome to my very first post! I was wondering what I could post to change this blank slate into a ‘proper blog’ and came across this tag, originally started by Love and Other Bookish Things. I can’t find their original blog as they seem to have deleted it unfortunately, but if they’ve changed their URL, please let me know so I can credit them properly!

Why did you start this blog?

One of my friends recently introduced me to Bookstagram and it’s genuinely shaped the last few months of my life. I’ve enjoyed being an active part of the bookish community so much that I wanted another way to show my creativity alongside my Instagram account. I’ve also read many books in a very short time period (March was particularly good; finishing and enjoying 12 books), so I thought I could create a blog to write my reviews and do posts about my favourite books to share with others!

What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?

I think I read books that are ‘forgotten’ or lesser known gems that I find in charity shops (best place ever for second hand books!) or UK stores like The Works which sells heavily discounted books for as little as £1. I’ve also got a varied and eclectic taste when it comes to books and genres; I’ll always give it a try! I think these things give me a different perspective on reading, blogging and books so I think my reviews and posts will reflect that.

What are you most excited for about this new blog?

I’m just super excited to meet new people who love books as much as I do! The bookish community on Instagram is amazing so I’m even more excited to meet the book blogger community.

Why do you love reading?

Easy peasy question! Not only does reading relax me, I feel like I’m transported into a new and different world, feeling and thinking what the main character, or character’s perspective of choice, is. I like being distracted from my real life sometimes and reading is the perfect way to do that.

What book or series got you into reading?

Not really a book or a series, really, to tell the truth. I’ve loved reading ever since I was a child thanks to my parents – my dad’s a huge Sci-Fi and Fantasy nerd and my mam’s always loved Thrillers and Mysteries. My grandparents took me to the library at least once a week and overall, reading has been part of my life since I can remember. However! That being said, my Dad and my Nana took me to the Harry Potter midnight releases and I have to say that series still to this day has my heart. So if I had to say a series, I’d say Harry Potter.

What questions would you ask your favorite authors?

I’m quite bad at thinking on the spot so I’d have to really think about it for a while to ask a question that would mean a lot to me. Maybe something different like “where were you when you had the first idea of the story or world you’ve written?” or “what were your influences writing your book?” or hey, maybe I’d ask them something about music as that’s another obsession of mine.

What challenges do you think starting a book blog will be the hardest to overcome?

I like to think of myself as quite a veteran of content creation, so I know that making a schedule and/or being consistent are incredibly important. However, I think for me just battling with WordPress has been difficult enough! It’s been a minefield setting up this blog. I’ve genuinely changed themes about 18 times already. Finally, I feel a lot happier with my current one.

I think getting to know all the wonderful book bloggers out there will be a little hard too – there’s so many! I want to read all the reviews!

When did you start reading?

Not a clue! The people who know me personally understand my memory is horrendous. I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t reading though!

Where do you read?

Everywhere and anywhere! At the moment I read mostly while commuting to work as the 90 minutes is a bit of a killer. It’s great to wake my brain up in the morning and focus on something when the noise of the tube and rush hour London is passing by. The most relaxing place for me to read is my bed covered in a few blankets with my candles burning, though. I’d take that over anything else!

What kinds of books do you like to read?

I have a largely mixed taste and I think I’d read anything once! At the moment I love reading Young Adult and Adult books. I’ve picked up a few Middle Grade books recently which I’m quite excited about too! For genres, I love Fantasy, Contemporary, Dystopian and LGBT+.

That was such a fun tag to do! I hope you enjoyed my first post. I know I certainly did writing it. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you see you here again soon!

  1. Welcome to the book blogging community! I’m sure you’ll love it! I still feel pretty new myself and I definitely remember the struggle of changing themes a million times to get it right 😅 It’s nice to find another British blogger, I’m a pretty frequent customer at The Works and totally agree you can’t beat a good charity shop book find!
Good luck, I can’t wait to see more content from you!

    1. Thank you! I’m super excited to meet everyone 😄 I’m just convinced WordPress hates me so it took a long time for me to get everything sorted to how I like it! Same here; I go to The Works a little too often for my bank balance. Honestly, charity shops are my favourite, one of them where I live sells books for 50p and they’re in excellent condition. Some haven’t even been read! Thank you very much ☺️
